The Interior Ministry says the bomber was on foot when he detonated his explosives Monday outside the police headquarters in the provincial capital, Lashkar Gah.

Two of the victims were civilians. Another 29 people were wounded.

Officials say another bomber armed with a grenade killed a police officer at a security command Monday in western Farah province.

Local authorities say the bomber died after the attack, but there are conflicting reports about the cause of death. Some officials say the attacker was shot dead by police, while others say he died when his explosives went off.

Two shopkeepers were wounded in the incident.

The attacks follow a string of bombings and clashes that killed 14 people across eastern and southern Afghanistan Sunday.

Two British soldiers, four U.S. troops and five suspected militants were among the casualties Sunday. The others were Afghan civilians.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for three of Sunday's attacks. Militants loyal to the extremist group have gained strength in recent years, after U.S.-led forces drove them from power in late 2001.

The U.S. is sending thousands of additional troops to Afghanistan to try to get the insurgency under control.
