The blast demolished the two- storey FIA office, where the police used to interrogate high- value suspects. Three attackers, riding a car, approached the investigation agency's office at 8.15 am ( local time). People were running and crying for help," Noorul Huda, a student at a nearby religious school, was quoted by news agencies as saying.
" All I could see was rubble and blood," said Issam Ahmed, a local reporter. " The attackers used about 600 kg of explosives and the blast has left a huge crater at the entrance of the agency's office," Ayaz told this correspondent. The mangled remains of a Toyota Corolla car could be seen next to the crater caused by the blast. " This ( attacked) building was used for interrogating important suspects. But no suspect was being interrogated there when the blast occurred," Lahore police chief Pervez Rathore told reporters. He said 40 policemen working with the agency were inside the building when the attack took place. The residents of K- Block in Model Town, where the blast took place, complained they had written many letters to the authorities for moving the office of the investigation agency out of the area. " Almost all the offices and the installations of the security agencies are being targeted by terrorists. So the government should try to set up such offices and installations in areas where innocent civilians do not fall victim to terrorists hitting the security apparatus," Mohammad Musharraf, a local resident, said. A number of prominent politicians, including former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, live in the neighbourhood. Several schools and religious institutions are also located in Model Town. Residents said a number of parents and children were wounded on their way to school. Hours after the blast, a spokesman for the Tehreek- e- Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility.
" The attack was to avenge ( US) drone attacks and ( Pakistani) military operations in the tribal areas," he was quoted as saying by news agencies.

An A Suicide car bomb attack on an office of the Federal Investigation Agency ( FIA), Pakistan's main police probe agency, killed 13 people and injured about 90 more in Lahore's Model Town residential area on Monday.
